Dance Teachers: Developing the I Can Do Attitude!
“There are three types of people in this world. Those who make things happen, those who watch things happen and those who wonder, what just happened!”
Mary Kay Ash
Oh yes, don’t you just love that saying! Makes me laugh every time I read it but truer words have never been spoken. So, I ask you the following questions:
Are you a take charge type of person? Do you have a can-do attitude? Do you have an I will get it done mentality? If you don’t think so, think again. You are in business and you have already shown the courage and mental makeup to succeed. You have after all taken that first all-important action step. You did something! Most people are stuck in neutral. They will be more than happy to tell you what you are doing or have done wrong. But as we know the view is always easy from the cheap seats. You are doing, you thought I can do it and you made the decision that you will do it. But to keep moving along on the right path you must keep focusing on what it is you really want. There is and will be distractions along the way. But your attitude will be infectious and will help you create your atmosphere. You have that kind of power, yes you really do!
Now, you can’t just sit around, think happy thoughts and hope things will go as planned, but you know that, it will take hard work, dedication and some sacrifice but keep in mind that if you always have your hands are firmly on the wheel, you are in control. You just need to keep your eye on the prize.
Think about this for one moment…
Excuses = Why I can’t
Expectations = Why I will
To succeed in business and in life you must know where you are going and what you want. It’s like getting in your car to go somewhere. You know where you want to go and have it mapped out on how you are going to get there. Now after being in business for 32 year I can tell you I have had detours, have had to recalculate and scrap some plans altogether but I have never changed what I have wanted. That is the same now than what it was all those years ago. I have added a few more things and have had to adjust my plans to take me where I want to go but one of the strongest feelings and mindset you can have is an “I will” mentality. When you say to yourself “I will” it really leaves no wiggle room to get out of what it is you will do. “I will” is all about a willingness to do! If there is something pressing you need to address saying to yourself and or writing down what you will do is like a mental order that needs to be filled.
Maybe one of these applies to you…
I will work on marketing
I will work of fixing this teacher issue
I will focus on improving my communication with my staff and customers
I will find a way to increase revenue this year
Whatever your “I will” is unique to you. But it must be important to your overall strategy to get you where you want to go. If you want more students and income, what will you do to get that?
You can also use if for personal goals like…
I will lose 10 pounds
I will work on my health
I will find a way to make more money
I will make find a way to get rid of the stress in my life
Once you set out what it is you want, that than you will helps you create an action plan to help you get to where you want to go.
So, my question to you is what are you willing to do, to get you to where you want to go? “I will” creates a willingness that helps you get to whatever you want to achieve. So many times, people think “I can’t do that” and once they say or think that way, most of the time, they are right! Think about your students. Don’t we want them to work in an “I will” and not an “I can’t” mindset? We do not let our students even utter the words I can’t.
Things will challenge you along the way and may even distract you from what it is that is important to you. So, I recommend that you write down what it is you will do and why you are willing to do it.
“If you believe you can do it, you are half way there!”
Theodore Roosevelt
Another great quote and so important in how we think. Whatever you want in life is there for the taking. You just have to believe.
You can do it, you will do it… end of story
