bun

By Christina Ricucci

As a dancer, knowing how to perfectly execute a ballet bun is crucial. Whether it’s for an important audition, competition, or just for class. It’s always good to look your best!!

The way I like to approach a ballet bun sounds complicated, but it’s actually quite simple. The first step is to brush your hair up into a slick ponytail, straight back to the crown of your head. This is the cleanest way to do it. If you want to get fancy, you can do a braid or a twist (which personally I like to do the most.) Once you hairspray it all up, it’s time to move on to the bun! If you have thick hair like me, this trick will save your life! Separate your hair into two sections, twist it around, and place it into a bun while pinning it. I like to use the “Bunheads” pins because they are great with keeping hair in place. Then take the second piece of hair, twist and wrap it around the other swirl of hair. Then pin it in. Once it’s nice and tight, take a hairnet and capture all of those baby hairs trying to escape! Then finish it off with some more hairspray. You also have the option to add a small decorative clip/bow/flower if you’d like! Just make sure it isn’t too big because you don’t want to worry about it falling out or distracting from your performance. I hope these tips and tricks help you as much as they’ve helped me through the years!!
